History of Dog Aid

Dog AID's History

Dog AID is based on the successful American organisation called Top Dog. The original idea of the scheme was to help people with physical disabilities train their own pet dogs.

Internationally acclaimed behaviourist, John Rogerson, together with co-founder, Dolores Palmer, are responsible for adapting this idea for the needs of people with physical disabilities in the UK. In 1992 a pilot scheme was set up in the Midlands and so Dog AID was born.

Dolores Palmer trained the very first Dog AID Assistance Dog and since then we have certified 30 dogs to Assistance Level.

Dog AID Today

Today, Dog AID is a national voluntary organisation helping people throughout the country. Since its conception in 1992, we have given demonstrations of the work we do at many sows around the country, including the dog event of the year; Crufts.

Our demonstrations allow you to see some of the things we help people with disabilities to do in order to be of assistance to them in everyday life.
