This is the Assistance Level of training, only dogs who have been assessed as having had good socialising, being of good temperament and recovery skills with the ability to cope well with stress, will be able to come onto this level. Dogs will also need to be neutered. On level 3 clients will learn how to transfer the skills learnt on level 2 into more public environments. This will involve further socialising and familiarisation and extra training of both basic and advanced control exercises in new environments. In addition the dog will have the opportunity to learn how to cope with a variety of new situations, e.g. lifts.
Clients will be allowed to take their dog into public places where Assistance dogs are allowed only when with their trainer.
At the end of Level 3 there will be an assessment of client and dog. This will demonstrate the high standard of training and socialising that the dog has attained. The owner will need to be able to demonstrate consideration for their dog and excellent handling skills. Clients and dogs that pass this test will be given full Assistance Dog status. They will be required to have an annual re-assessment to ensure that the high standard is maintained.
The final assessment will be carried out by an independent assessor from Dog AID i.e. a trainer qualified as an assessor but not the trainer who has worked with the client.
Clients are required to have their dog health checked at least every 12 months. Dogs are required to have Public Liability and Health insurance for the length of their lives.
